Hazardous Wastes are usually defined based on their nature, characteristics and potential adverse impacts on human health and the environment. From a legal point of view, such a definition is derived from one or more of the following intrinsic properties of wastes: Explosive, Flammable, Corrosive, Infectious, Poisonous, Toxic and/or Eco-toxic. Furthermore, taking into consideration the well-known “Precautionary Principle”, any unknown (suspicious) waste is hazardous until proven otherwise, any waste (residue) derived from hazardous waste is hazardous, and a mixture of hazardous (no matter how small) and none hazardous wastes should be deemed hazardous in its entirety. ...more |
