Qatar announces clean energy programme 11/10/2013
The Qatari government seeks to generate at least 20% of its energy through clean sources by 2024, Qatar's Al-Arab daily reported Wednesday.

A programme has been drawn up to generate 1,800 megawatts of electricity through green energy sources by 2020, said Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiya, head of the government's Administrative Control and Transparency Authority and former minister of energy and industry.

Al-Attiya was speaking at the 2013 Global Clean Energy Forum in Qatar, which brought together around 300 of the world's clean energy companies to discuss challenges and opportunities in the sector.

The programme is part of a strategic plan to preserve the environment and depend on clean sources of energy, al-Attiya said.
