The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) has organized the activities of Clean up the World campaign that took place over the past three days in Aqaba with participation of more than 3,500 citizens from different official and popular entities and under the patronage of the Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Dr. Kamel Mahadin as representative of the Chairperson of the Society HRH Princess Basma bint Ali.

 

The campaign organized annually and for the twentieth time respectively included several activities; an open environmental exhibition in which 28 entities participated from various environmental, tourism and cultural sectors. It also included environmental tournaments, puppet theatre, face painting aiming to make people aware about the importance of marine environment, in addition to presenting and introducing the products and services of the participating entities. Thousands of Aqaba inhabitants participated in the different events, in addition to a campaign for dive cleanup carried out by about 300 volunteers and 110 divers with the objective of keeping people aware with importance of the clean and safe environment. About a ton of waste was removed from bottom of the sea with participation of the diving centers in Aqaba city.

 

An environmental march was organized in the streets of Aqaba with participation of hundreds of the local community people aiming to raise awareness on the importance of minimizing the use of transport means and promote walking to reduce emission of pollutants. The activities were concluded by a cleanup campaign on the Palm Beach to keep the beach and the marine environment tidy in which thousands of people from the official bodies and local community participated.
