Plastic bags occupy large space in environmental degradation 17/9/2013
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs yesterday held a workshop on reducing the negative effects of plastic bags on health and the environment, under the auspices of Mohamed bin Khamis al Araimi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs. Al Araimi stressed that the issue of waste is one of the health and environmental issues that gains growing interest at all levels and the plastic bags occupy a large space in that interest due to being unable to break up for hundreds of years, leading to health and environmental harms, in addition to distorting the landscape. He added that the workshop is part of the emphasis on the activation of the positive collective participation between government agencies, civil society organizations and the private sector and of plastic manufacturers to join efforts and cope with the development and protection of the environment.
