The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) on Sunday announced its second Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition at a press conference at Petroleum Development Oman’s EcOman Centre.
This year’s contest will take place on November 11 and offers environment-conscious students the opportunity to recommend solutions for ecological issues. Winners will represent Oman at the regional competition in Dubai later in the month.
A website, omanspeaking.org, was also launched to encourage students from across the country to register online for the competition that will be in English and Arabic.
Amor al Matani, ESO board member and community outreach officer, appreciated the opportunity to engage the youth of Oman in global issues. He said, “This is the only competition of its kind which brings youth from different areas of the country together to discuss environmental questions. The competition will also promote personal development of each student and prepare tomorrow’s leaders to seek sustainable solutions for the challenges of the future. We would like to see a high participation from across the sultanate.”
Matani was joined by Mayimona Nasrallah al Ruqaishi, who was the supervisor of the regional winning team in 2012, and will be ambassador for supervisors for ESO's Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition 2013. Mayimona said, “We would like Oman represented by the best participants at the regional level.”
