The Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) participated in the 20th session of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD), which was held in Marseille, France. AFED Secretary General Najib Saab was elected Vice-President of the Steering Committee for the next term, chaired by France.

 

Over the course of 3 days, the meeting discussed what the commission has achieved of its stated goals and its program for the coming period.

 

AFED presented its report on the Impact of Pandemic and War on Arab Environment, and suggested focusing MCSD efforts on turning recommendations and decisions into laws, by the legislative authorities in the Mediterranean countries, and take necessary measures to deal with the repercussions of the Russian war in Ukraine on Mediterranean countries. AFED also called for taking proactive measures to confront the waves of refugees, which threaten security and stability, starting with helping the countries of origin to achieve social and economic development, together with political reforms, in order to create decent living conditions that encourage people to stay in their countries.
