Sixth largest fire in California history, 30% contained 29/8/2013
The Rim Fire is now reported at 192, 466 acres. 301 square miles of incredible devastation in a pristine wilderness area.

11 residences, 97 outbuildings, and 3 commercial buildings have been burned, but there is good news too.

192,466 acres are being reported by Cal Fire on August 28, 2013 at 6:15 p.m. The fire is also now at 30% containment and fire crews, all 4537 of them, are making very significant headway in controlling what is now the sixth largest fire in California history, a record everyone locally would have preferred was not established.

There is however, more good news than simply gaining greater containment on the fire. The area of Groveland, Ca. which had been under enforced evacuation orders was cleared for the residents of both Clements Road, and Graham Ranch Road to reenter according to a statement by spokesperson Jerry Snyder of the Stanislaus National Forest.

The California National Guard has also lent the use of a drone aircraft to fighting the fire, the drone has infrared capabilities and is able to fly lower and slower to see through the smoke to direct the efforts of the fire fighting aircraft and the crews on the ground.
