Saudi Aramco earned its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certification accreditation for its commitment to sustainable buildings and environmental stewardship.
The LEED Platinum Certification is the highest honor that the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) can award to an environment-friendly project and has been Saudi Aramco’s target ever since.
Saudi Aramco’s solar-powered Al-Midra tower in Dhahran garnered 33 out of 35 points in the energy and atmosphere category.
According to Aramco, Al-Midra tower received the platinum LEED certification because of its fully automated building system and solar power system deemed as energy efficient and environmental friendly by the USGBC.
“The criteria for awarding this highest of LEED recognitions are stringent and exacting standards,” Community Services Executive Director Hany K. Abu Khadra said. .
Meanwhile, Saudi Aramco named two projects set to commence in the near future — the phase II of the Petro Rabigh venture and the proposed refinery in Yunnan Province.
