KISR, MEW of Kuwait cooperate in water research projects 6/8/2013
Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) signed on Monday an agreement on cooperation in the implementation of three projects in the field of water researches. The Institute will implement these projects for the Ministry which realized the urgent need to meet the growing demand for water.
Through its Water Research Division, KISR started implementing a strategy for water conservation to provide scientific and technical support for sectors concerned with the management of the water resources.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Institute Dr. Mohammad Al-Rashed said the water researches focus on finding alternative resources and rationing the consumption.
"Despite the limitedness of resources in Kuwait, the country's consumption of fresh water is the rated among the world's highest rates which highlights the need to use water in a more sustainable way," he stressed.
On the new research projects, Dr. Al-Rashed said they include building a pipeline for carrying the treated drainage water from Kabad area to Al-Sulaibiya in order to increase the strategic reservoir of subterranean water.
The second project is to detect and gauge the rates of water consumption at homes while the third aims to find innovative ways for seawater desalination, he revealed.
