Robots to Salvage Reefs 18/7/2013
The world is witnessing the ‘International Year of Reef’ come this year, where countries are adopting various techniques to understand the several perils to the world’s coral.

The United States of America have made their first move. The nation has positioned underwater robots along with expert scuba divers in the Caribbean.

This initiative has been undertaken in an effort to save the reefs and understand the root cause for corals to face endangerment.

An issue that could have been overlooked in the past is now growing with alarming concerns. The coral reef pollution will lead to numerous other threats like, sewage pollution, intensive tourism and warming the water bodies therein affecting the climate. With the advent of science and technology, the U.S. has made use of robots to survey the reefs deep inside the Caribbean.
They intend to discover the secret to the healthy being of corals while reefs in different parts of the world are suffering the brunt.

There are three robotic vehicles that have been planted in the ocean bed. The ‘twilight zone’ within the Caribbean is being explored. Not much is known about this patch of coral reefs and so the U.S. is on their way to discover this zone.
