The International Conference: Policies for Water and Food Security in the Dry Areas kicks off in Cairo today 24/6/2013
The meeting is held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Hisham Mohamed Qandeel, Prime Minister of Egypt and jointly organized by ICARDA, FAO, IFAD, IDRC and Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center.
 
Some 150 policy makers, development partners, national agricultural research systems, NGOs, donors and representatives of the private sector from 30 countries are gathering in Cairo on 24-26 June 2013 at the “International Conference on Policies for Water and Food Security in Dry Areas”. Participants will present and debate innovative ways to improve water management on sustainable and equitable development while ensuring food security for smallholder farmers from the world’s dry areas.
 
Conference themes:
• Incentives for sustainable and efficient water allocation and management
• Interactions between water management, food security and employment
• Coping with water scarcity: water and food security nexus policy dialogue
