Electric car charging stations in the works for Abu Dhabi 26/5/2016
The foundation of a network of electric car-charging stations in Abu Dhabi is under way after the Regulation and Supervision Bureau announced it was developing a regulatory framework for the terminals.

The Bureau said the regulatory framework, the first of its kind in the GCC, will be in place by the end of the year.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Ahmad, the Bureau’s chairman, said his department was “currently working on developing the Regulation and Guidance for the installation of EV charging stations in coordination with the relevant stakeholders and in-line with the approved Government strategy on Low Emission Vehicles".

The framework will set guidelines for technical requirements, inspection and testing as well as providing landlords and contractors information on installation, connection, and maintenance requirements.

Once in place, inspection and testing of the terminals will be conducted by the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Distribution Companies.

The Abu Dhabi stations are set to be a part of a broader network which will include free charging at 30 car parks in Dubai and Sharjah as well as Abu Dhabi. (The National)
