The Labour Party in Netherlands have proposed a motion in the lower house of the parliament which will ban the sales of diesel and petroleum cars in the country by 2025. According to the proposal, post 2025 only electric vehicles will be sold in the country.
A majority of the elected officials in the Tweede Kamer (Lower house of the Parliament) have supported the proposal of the Labout Party (PdvA). The move would allow existing petroleum cars to stay on the road but new ones would not be sold in the market.
It is still debatable if the motion will pass through the Dutch Parliament but if it does, it will be a big step towards de-stigmatizing electric cars, all-over the world.
Transport uses 29 per cent of the total energy in Netherlands with only 10 per cent of the entire energy production coming from renewable sources. If this law is implemented, the Netherlands will also become a model study for other countries to study the impact of electric vehicles. (India Today)
