Baynounah TV partners with houbara fund to promote conservation 30/3/2016
A local UAE TV station is teaming up with the International Fund for Houbara Conservation to promote the protection of the birds.
 
Baynounah TV will work with the fund to create programmes covering the local history of falconry and endeavours to restore wild populations of the houbara bustards through the release of captive-bred birds.
 
Houbara bustards are a vulnerable species and considered an integral part of Emirati culture and heritage.
 
Last year, the fund’s production programme established a new record, breeding more than 48,000 houbaras as part of conservation efforts.
 
The programme’s international efforts include the establishment of four centres – located in the UAE, Morocco and Kazakhstan – is home to an estimated 80 per cent of the world’s houbara bustards.
 
During their migration, houbara bustards travel thousands of kilometres, with some arriving in the Arabian Peninsula to escape severe winters in Central Asia. (The National)
