We all like a bit of fresh air now and then, but only because it’s free.
In China, however, you can now buy a bag of the stuff for a fixed price.
It might sound like a load of hot air, but shrewd business people are cashing in on the country’s smog problem.
In Guangdong Province, hikers are being offered bags of fresh air by vendors to either use immediately or take home.
Visitors to the mountains in the region usually go there to escape the smog, but many fork out cash for some extra air in a bag.
Residents of the cities in the Pearl River Delta regularly rush for higher ground to escape the smog and breathe in unpolluted air.
There they were met with signs reading, “Purchase clean air to purchase a healthy life”, and “Unpolluted air – big bags for 30 RMB (£3) and small bags for 10 RMB (£1)”.
The bags even have flower petals inside the bag to make them smell more pleasant.
The villagers selling the air claim it comes from “the heart of the mountain”.
