Major institutions working to combat pollution announced jointly on Tuesday that six new fixed air monitoring stations and a mobile air monitoring unit will be added to the mix, bringing the total of air-testing facilities to 15 locations across the emirate.
New data will paint a clearer picture of suspended particles in the atmosphere collected at source ranging from carbon monoxide, sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and ozone to meteorological readings on wind speed, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.
The new air monitoring stations project spearheaded by Bee’ah — an environmental and waste management company set up by Sharjah leaders in 2007 — will use the data to help leading partners in government and academia formulate new strategies to slash emissions from cars, factories and energy-related facilities.
