Jordanian Minister of Environment, Dr. Taher Shakhshir, announced at a press conference on Tuesday that Jordan has set a target to reduce emissions by 14% by 2030 and double the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix by 2020. He was talking at the Climate Summit in Paris, in the presence of international press who showed interest in Jordan's plans.
Shakhshir explained that the government will finance 1.5% of the cost needed for the reduction process from its own resources. The remaining, he said, should come from international aid and foreign private investments. Jordan has embarked on an ambitious program to generate electricity from solar energy, offering vast incentives to private investors.
