Ali Naimi at COP: reduce emissions not fossil fuels 9/12/2015
Paris, Al-Bia Wal-Tanmia

Saudi Minister of Petroleum Ali Al-Naimi, speaking Tuesday at the Climate Summit in Paris, warned against unfair grudge towards fossil fuels and oil-producing countries. He explained at a panel that "the problem is not fossil fuels but the emissions. Instead of phasing out fossil fuels, we have to see how to control, manage and lessen emissions." The Minister didn't explain to what extent emissions from fossil fuels can be reduced, and whether this will be enough to meet the target of limiting temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius level.

Saudi Arabia is implementing an aggressive energy efficiency program, but progress is believed to be slow, in the presence of high levels of subsidies covering fuel, electricity and water prices.
