The prime minister of the world's fourth-smallest nation, Tuvalu, is urging European leaders to help prevent the nation from disappearing beneath the rising sea. Global warming is causing the Pacific Ocean to rise, threatening the tiny nation.

 

Enele Spoaga recently visited Brussels to gather the support of the European Union leaders ahead of the United Nations climate change summit scheduled for December. Tuvalu Islands currently stand at a distance of just 13 feet above the sea level. The islands are currently inhabited by nearly 10,000 people.

 

The Brussel Times reports that Spoaga requested the European leaders cut greenhouse gas emissions and keep the level of global warming change below 1.5 degrees Celsius. The current goal of maintaining the global warming level is below 2 degrees Celsius.

 

"We need to save Tuvalu to save the world. If this island disappears under the world. If this island disappears under water, it is not the end of climate change. And I ask you what future do we hold? We need to collaborate as one human face to save humankind,” said Spoaga during his meeting, reports The Times of India.
