Cheap and environment-friendly house construction seems to be catching up fast in Saudi Arabia, with a firm which has designed houses for a local client who will commence construction in two weeks.
“Houses using wood and concrete are designed in such a way that light but sturdy materials are used. There will be a minimum of waste discharged from the project,” said Laerte de Pontes, CEO of Advanced Construction Systems Ltd.
“We are in the process of finalizing the design for the first 100 houses we will build in Jeddah utilizing our system,” he said.
De Ponte said that his firm has a construction system which complies with LEED Certification with zero waste and no carbon dioxide emission. LEED Certification is being used in the United Kingdom for green construction, which means a minimum of waste discharged from the project.
“Our construction process takes place in a factory, transferring 80 percent completed modules to the site for minimum disruption and maximizing speed of construction,” he said.
“We utilize our own ‘nanocrete’ (lightweight non-autoclave concrete) which has extremely high value for insulation, sound proofing, and water and fire resistance, on top of being a very strong and light concrete.”
