The Iranian Department of Environment plans to set up environment schools to make the public more aware about environmental issues and ways to protect wildlife, IRNA reported on Saturday.
DOE director for public education Mohammad Darvish said a number of movie directors, producers, Majlis legislators, and Friday Prayers leaders have been instructed with tips to help improve the public’s awareness about environmental issues.
The DOE hopes to make all primary and middle school students aware of environmental issues within a twenty-year period, he added.
According to Darvish, the Education Ministry has agreed that some 56,000 teachers get training in environment protection by the department.
He also announced that 60 schools in the country would be converted to pilot environment schools in the next academic year, which will start in the autumn of 2015.
