Volunteers gear up for cleanup drive on north Jeddah beachfront 15/9/2014
Hundreds of volunteers are getting ready for a cleanup drive along the beachfront of north Jeddah, called Bouhairat, on September 19.

Spearheaded by the Jeddah-based ocean conservancy group Alliance of Proactive Organizations Center for Environmental Advocacy (APOCEA), the project is expected to involve at least 30 civic-oriented organizations who have given their commitment. Among those participating are divers and engineers.

Peddie Holanda, APOCEA coordinator for ocean conservancy in Saudi Arabia, said the event will start at 6 a.m. and end at 11 a.m.

Parsons, the primary sponsor of the event, is to provide resources and assist in the planning and coordination work with APOCEA. Fuchs and Total are co-sponsors.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with APOCEA for the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup in Jeddah, and proud to participate in this noble initiative of cleaning our environment, our water, our air, and our homes and communities,” a Parsons spokesman said.

Holanda urged others who wish to join to contact APOCEA official Esmael “Mike” Ali at 0543506463.
