The Omani Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs announced the establishment of a national park within the Al Saleel Wildlife Reserve and a tender has been floated to build a show hall, a nursery and set up some restaurants, cafes, and an area for handicrafts made by the people of the wilayat. Also, some Omani wild animals would be released in the reserve.
Thousands of people, mainly school students, researchers and persons interested in wildlife visit Al Saleel Wildlife Reserve every year.
The wilayat of Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate is unique in its beautiful nature and several tourist attractions have contributed to attract tourists from within and outside the Sultanate.
Al Saleel Wildlife Reserve is located in the north-east of the wilayat of Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi. It is about 220 square kilometres of large plain featuring many trees, mainly acacia tortilis 'Sumr' and Ghaf. Some of the plants are used as medicinal herbs. It is only 10km away from the centre of the wilayat. The reserve provides a good source of food for many wild animals, such as Arab deer, wild rabbits, red fox, wild cat and Egyptian eagle.
There is an environmental research centre in the reserve that helps conserve nature and wildlife, besides a nursery for breeding wild plants and many kinds of trees, especially acacia tortillis which is preferred by deer.
There is a control tower in the reserve to help protect the area from hunters.
The reserve has been classified as one of the most important wildlife reserves in the Sultanate for the role it plays in promoting and enriching tourism in the wilayat in particular and the Sultanate in general.
