Director of Environment resources, Housing and Sustained Development in the Arab League Jamaluddin Jaballah called for a unified Arab stance on environmental issues.

 

Jaballah made his remarks on the sidelines of the first session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) of the United Nations Environment Programme.

 

The League has conducted several meetings in different countries, among them Manama, Bahrain, and Nairobi, Kenya, with the permanent representatives to the United Nations Program for the Environment for that purpose, he said.

 

The official noted that some of the environmental issues on the agenda were prepared at the league, including chemical substance and waste, politics, science, decision-making in addition to sustainable development goals and poverty eradication.

 

Jaballah said sustainable development has received wide attention from the Arab League, including holding a special forum on sustainable development in the Arab region in order to shed light on the issue which was included within the goals of global sustainable development.

 

He also noted that another testament that the League showed interest in environmental issues, was holding an extraordinary session by the Arab Ministers Council on the environment, at the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, earlier this month.

 

Such meetings included reforms on the chemical waste issue, which was added to the resolution, in addition to a paragraph on supporting the nomination and representation of the Arab General Assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme, Jaballah added.
