EAD organizes panel discussion on Green Economy 19/2/2014
To mark the 17th National Environment Day, held this year under the slogan “Green Economy, Innovation and Sustainability”, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) on Tuesday organized a panel discussion on “Green Economy”.

Panelists discussed the concept of “Green Economy”, and called for the need to think differently about, “what we are doing as businesses, as society and as individuals in order to help improve the chances of sustainability in the long run.”

They highlighted how a green economy would provide income, employment and a good standard of life, emphasizing that the country needs to invest more in reducing its carbon emissions and air pollution, enhance energy and resource efficiency in its manufacturing and production processes and at the same time prevent the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Among the panelists were Humaid Kanji Ali, environmental economist at EAD, Dr Rashed Al Shaali, power and water consumption rationalizing expert at the Ministry of Energy, Abdul Aziz Zurub, director of health, safety and environment, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Haitham Abu-Zeid, chief economic researcher at the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, and Dr Nawal Al Hosany, Masdar’s director of sustainability as well as director of the Zayed Future Energy Prize.
