Rehabilitation of Sudanese agricultural sector top priority 4/2/2014
The Arab League Economic and Social Council meeting held recently in Khartoum called on Arab financial institutions and joint Arab companies to allocate not less than 20% percent of their capitals to support President Al Bashir's initiative for agricultural investment in Sudan to bridge the food gap in the Arab world.

The Council called on Arab private sector to invest in Sudan's agricultural sector, welcoming the initiative of Arab Boursa holding company to participate in the initiative implementation, with Sudan to provide all facilities for the company.

The Council further decided at the close of its meetings to invite Arab private sector to pay special concern to silos, fishery, transport, canning of vegetables and fruits, in addition to establishment of joint venture holding companies, while requiring the economic sector to submit periodic reports on the progress of implementation. The council also assigned the secretariat-general to coordinate with Sudan meetings with Arab businessmen and institutions.

The Council welcomed Sudan's move to improve the investment climate, equally appreciating Sudan's agreement with Arab Fund for Social and Economic Development to prepare a full study including action plan for the implementation of the initiative.

This requires from Sudan to determine the role of the agricultural sector in the upcoming period until the next Arab League Summit in 2015.
